2026 Public Schools Top 100 Preview: No. 48 Langston Hughes

Langston Hughes enters 2026 with one of the biggest roster transitions in this part of the Top 100. The Panthers must replace their starting quarterback, their top four running backs and seven of their top eight receivers from last season.

Prince Amari Aminu, a 2028 quarterback, is expected to take over after appearing in all 13 games last fall. Dee'Emry Carmichael and Esco Grant are the only returning skill players who logged meaningful snaps last season, while Deion Williams and Denim Welch give the Panthers two more current pieces to build around.

2026 Outlook

Everything starts with the quarterback transition. Aminu saw the field in all 13 games last season, which gives him a starting point that most first-year starters do not have. The Panthers will need that experience to carry into a much larger role.

Behind him, Carmichael brings 11 catches for 156 yards in nine games, and Grant returns after 34 carries for 272 yards in nine games. Williams had four interceptions last year, including a pick-six, and Welch brings a 2028 prospect with college offers into the line and defensive-front rotation.

Langston Hughes' top prospect is Kelsey Adams, a 2027 offensive tackle committed to Georgia, he anchors an offensive line that will need to step up big, especially early on in the season. The schedule will show how quickly the new skill group develops, with #15 Grayson, Lovejoy, Woodward Academy and #1 Creekside among the biggest tests.
