2026 Public Schools Top 100 Preview: No. 52 McEachern
The Indians add a 2,780-yard passer and several Division I recruits to a roster that went 10-0 in the 2025 regular season.

McEachern completed the 2025 regular season without a loss. The Indians went 10-0, won Region 3-6A and then had their season end with a 28-24 loss at Walton in the first round of the playoffs.
The program moves into GHSA Class 7A in 2026 with proven production at quarterback, multiple impact transfers and one of the deeper groups of Division I recruits in Georgia. The standard is no longer simply winning the region. McEachern has a roster built to advance in November.

2026 Outlook
The biggest change on offense is the arrival of senior quarterback Brenton James from St. Augustine in Florida. James completed 166 of 253 passes for 2,780 yards, 36 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 2025. He also ran for 229 yards and five scores. That gives McEachern an experienced passer who has already handled a full schedule and produced in the postseason.
The options around James extend well beyond one receiver. Junior Zyon Robinson transferred from Stockbridge with offers from Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and South Carolina. Senior Jarvaris Reed Jr. arrives from Jackson after catching 36 passes for 627 yards and five touchdowns while adding 390 return yards. Sophomore Jacorey Shockley produced nearly 600 yards and nine touchdowns as a freshman, and junior Casey Barner can be used on offense, defense and special teams. At tackle, 6-foot-8, 335-pound junior Keenon Verkerk adds a Division I prospect after transferring from East Paulding.

The defensive side has even more recruiting depth. Georgia commit Joakim Gouda joins the linebacker group after recording 100 tackles and two sacks in nine games at South Paulding. Kennesaw State commit Michai Rowe gives McEachern another senior linebacker with Division I experience in his recruitment.
The secondary includes Auburn commit Nasir Banks, Pitt commit Kayden Battle, national recruit Casey Barner and senior cornerback Nash Johnson. Junior safeties Cole and Quinn Pollock also transferred from Landmark Christian. McEachern can put several defensive backs with Division I offers on the field at the same time, which matters in a classification that includes multiple high-level passing attacks.

Casey Barner: S/ATH, Class of 2028
Barner holds offers from Georgia, Michigan, Texas, Tennessee and several other major programs. In McEachern’s 2025 opener against Walton, he accounted for 341 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns, including a 98-yard kickoff return and a 69-yard run on a fake punt.
Joakim Gouda: LB, Class of 2027
The Georgia commit transferred from South Paulding after finishing his junior season with 100 tackles and two sacks in nine games.
Brenton James: QB, Class of 2027
James threw for 2,780 yards and 36 touchdowns at St. Augustine last season while completing 65.6 percent of his passes. His Division I offers include Marshall, Navy, Toledo and Bethune-Cookman.
Zyon Robinson: WR, Class of 2028
Robinson transferred from Stockbridge for the 2026 season. His offer list includes Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and South Carolina.
Jacorey Shockley: WR/ATH, Class of 2029
Shockley recorded nearly 600 yards and nine touchdowns as a freshman. His offers include Georgia Tech, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Purdue, Tennessee and South Florida.
Jarvaris Reed Jr.: WR, Class of 2027
The FIU commit caught 36 passes for 627 yards and five touchdowns at Jackson in 2025. He also finished with 390 return yards before transferring to McEachern.
Keenon Verkerk: OT, Class of 2028
Verkerk is listed at 6-foot-8 and 335 pounds. The East Paulding transfer holds offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.
Nasir Banks: S, Class of 2027
Banks committed to Auburn in June. He returns to a McEachern secondary that already had multiple Division I recruits in 2025.
Kayden Battle: CB, Class of 2027
Battle committed to Pitt in June after receiving offers from programs that included Michigan State, Stanford, Miami and Kentucky.
Nash Johnson: CB, Class of 2027
Johnson’s current offer list includes Auburn, Clemson, Alabama, Miami and Ole Miss. He gives McEachern another experienced senior in the secondary.
Michai Rowe: LB, Class of 2027
The Kennesaw State commit also holds offers from Boston College, Ohio, Charlotte and Coastal Carolina.
Cole and Quinn Pollock: S, Class of 2028
The twin defensive backs transferred from Landmark Christian during the offseason. Both hold double-digit Division I offers, including South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest.
Schedule Breakdown
McEachern opens Aug. 19 against Kell in the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic, then travels to Florida for an Aug. 27 game at West Broward. Marietta is the home opener on Sept. 4, and the following week brings a road game at Gainesville, one of Georgia’s strongest non-region tests.
Region 3-7A play begins Oct. 2 at Hillgrove. The five-game region schedule also includes Campbell, Pebblebrook, Harrison and Kennesaw Mountain. Three of those five games are away from home, and the regular-season finale at Kennesaw Mountain comes after an open week.
Can McEachern turn a roster with this much verified talent into a deeper playoff run?
The Indians already proved they could control the regular season by going 10-0 in 2025. The first-round loss showed why the evaluation changes in November. McEachern has added production at quarterback, receiver, offensive tackle and linebacker, while the secondary returns several Division I recruits. The remaining issue is whether those pieces are ready to play together early enough to win a difficult Class 7A bracket.

Regular season: 9-1
Postseason: GHSA Class 7A quarterfinalist
I have McEachern winning Region 3 and reaching the Class 7A quarterfinals. The roster is deep enough to go farther, but the prediction stops there until the new offense and a transfer-heavy group show the same consistency McEachern had during last year’s regular season.
Bottom Line
McEachern’s 2026 roster is not short on known talent. James changes the quarterback outlook, Robinson, Reed and Verkerk add options around him, and Gouda joins a defense already loaded with Division I defensive backs.
After a 10-0 regular season and a first-round exit, the measure of this team will be its postseason result. The personnel is in place for McEachern to move beyond the opening round.
