2026 Public Schools Top 100 Preview: No. 55 South Pointe
The defending South Carolina Class 4A champion returns an experienced defense and proven receivers while replacing its quarterback and several offensive linemen.

South Pointe enters 2026 as the defending South Carolina Class 4A state champion after a 14-1 season in which the Stallions scored 582 points and allowed 117. The title was the eighth in program history and the first since 2021.
The graduation of quarterback J'Zavien Currence and several important pieces from a rushing attack that produced more than 3,400 yards creates real work on offense. South Pointe still returns an experienced receiving group, while a defense led by Clemson commit Seth Tillman gives the Stallions a proven foundation for another championship run.

2026 Outlook
South Pointe's 2025 offense averaged 38.8 points and finished with 582 total points, but its biggest production losses are concentrated in the backfield and along the offensive line. Currence handled the quarterback position, and R.J. Brown was a central part of a ground game that scored 48 rushing touchdowns. Establishing a new quarterback and rebuilding the blocking unit are the two immediate offensive priorities.
The returning pass-catching group gives the next quarterback experienced options. Malik Ratliff caught 36 passes for 731 yards and nine touchdowns last season. Kaiden Watkins added 26 receptions for 350 yards, while Kadin Vassel finished with 13 catches for 244 yards and three touchdowns. That group accounted for 1,325 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns in 2025.

The defense has fewer questions at the top of the depth chart. Tillman returns after producing 61 tackles, 27 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in 13 games. Zymier Gordon-Miles recorded 75 tackles and three interceptions, and Watkins has varsity experience in the secondary in addition to his offensive production. South Pointe allowed just 7.8 points per game last season and held four of its five playoff opponents to 14 points or fewer.
The Stallions do not need the offense to duplicate last year's rushing totals immediately. If the new quarterback protects the football and distributes it to Ratliff, Watkins and Vassel, the defense should keep South Pointe in control of most games while the offensive front develops.

Seth Tillman | DL | Senior Committed to Clemson. Tillman recorded 61 tackles, 27 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in 13 games as a junior. He is the established production leader on a defense that allowed only 117 points in 15 games.
Zymier Gordon-Miles | DB/ATH | Senior Committed to North Carolina A&T. Gordon-Miles finished 2025 with 75 tackles and three interceptions and also scored six offensive touchdowns. His two-way production gives South Pointe an experienced option in the secondary and with the ball.
Kaiden Watkins | WR/DB | Senior Watkins holds Division I offers that include Auburn, Penn State, Georgia Tech, Syracuse and West Virginia. He caught 26 passes for 350 yards last season and returns as one of the Stallions' most experienced players on both sides of the ball.
Jamil Watson | ATH | Junior Watson holds Division I offers from Wake Forest, North Carolina, Cincinnati, UCF and Louisville. The 2028 athlete has already collected offers from five FBS programs entering his junior season.
Schedule Breakdown
South Pointe opens with Ridge View before beginning region play against Nation Ford and Lake Wylie. The non-region portion also includes road games at Rock Hill and a home matchup with Northwestern, giving the Stallions two tests against Class 5A opponents from Rock Hill.
The four October games are all region contests. South Pointe hosts Clover and Indian Land, travels to Catawba Ridge and closes its currently listed regular-season schedule at home against York. The Oct. 16 trip to Catawba Ridge is the only road game in that closing stretch.
How quickly can South Pointe replace its quarterback and rebuild the offensive line?
The Stallions return enough receiving production to remain balanced, but the offense no longer has Currence directing it and must replace several starters from a line that powered one of the state's most productive rushing attacks. South Pointe can still win with defense early, but another state-title run will depend on the new offensive core becoming dependable before the postseason.

T25PS Prediction
I have South Pointe finishing 9-1, winning Class 4A Region 3 and returning to the Class 4A state championship game. The defense is strong enough to carry the Stallions while the offense settles in, but the reduced experience at quarterback and along the offensive line leaves less margin for error than South Pointe had last season.
Bottom Line
South Pointe returns a championship-level defensive front, a productive secondary leader and three receivers who made meaningful contributions in 2025. The offense has specific positions to replace, but the returning skill talent and a defense that allowed fewer than eight points per game give the Stallions a clear path to another deep postseason run.
