Colquitt County turns to transfer quarterback Khi Mitchell and a veteran defensive core as it moves into GHSA Class 7A.

Colquitt County won nine games in 2025, but the offense that takes the field this fall will be different at quarterback and deeper at the skill positions. The Packers beat Mill Creek 35-24 in the first round of the GHSA Class 6A playoffs before a 31-10 loss at Grayson ended their season.
Cohen Lawson has transferred to Lee County after passing for 2,012 yards and 19 touchdowns last year. Colquitt answers that move with transfer quarterback Khi Mitchell, Georgia Tech commitment Antwan Lockett, a productive young running back and a new tight end with a Division I offer sheet. The defense returns several of its most active players from last season.

2026 Outlook
The quarterback change will shape the season. Mitchell transferred from Mount Zion after passing for 1,479 yards and rushing for 669 in 2025. He gives Colquitt a true running threat at the position, but the challenge is larger than replacing Lawson's passing totals. Mitchell must take command of a new offense before the schedule reaches Lee County in Week 4.
He will not start without help. Lockett caught 40 passes for 811 yards and 10 touchdowns last season and has since committed to Georgia Tech. Tucker Saporita transferred from Pike County after an all-region season at tight end, giving the Packers another experienced target. Saporita caught 21 passes for 296 yards and five touchdowns in 2025 and arrived with roughly 15 reported college offers.

Jason Stephenson is the leading returning runner. He carried 98 times for 476 yards as a sophomore, with 100-yard games against Valdosta and Tift County. The job now is to turn those flashes into dependable production across a full season. Center Canyon Cook and lineman Kavon Thomas are two returning pieces up front, and their work will matter immediately with a new quarterback and a young lead back.
Colquitt's strongest continuity is on defense. McKenzie Graham finished 2025 with 87 tackles and 4.5 sacks. Josh Alford recorded 81 tackles, seven tackles for loss and two interceptions, while Ty'Mhyr Moore produced 14 tackles for loss, three sacks and 14 quarterback hurries during the regular season. Those three give the Packers proven speed and pressure at every level.
The concern is not whether Colquitt has individual defenders. It is whether the unit can become more consistent. The Packers allowed 282 points in 12 games, and both regular-season losses came when Lowndes and North Gwinnett controlled the game defensively. A veteran core should raise the floor, but the move to Class 7A leaves less room for uneven nights.

Antwan Lockett | WR | Class of 2027 Lockett is committed to Georgia Tech after leading Colquitt with 40 receptions, 811 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2025. He is the established first option for a new quarterback and the player most capable of changing a game with one catch.
Khi Mitchell | QB | Class of 2027 Mitchell transferred from Mount Zion after producing 1,479 passing yards and 669 rushing yards last season. His legs change the math for a defense, but his progress as a passer will determine how much of the field Colquitt can use.
Tucker Saporita | TE | Class of 2027 Saporita is a transfer from Pike County and an all-region tight end with roughly 15 reported college offers. He caught 21 passes for 296 yards and five touchdowns in 2025 and gives Mitchell a bigger target between the numbers.
Jason Stephenson | RB | Class of 2028 Stephenson rushed for 476 yards on 98 carries as a sophomore. He already has meaningful varsity work, including 111 yards against Valdosta and 102 against Tift County, and now moves into the center of the backfield plan.
McKenzie Graham | LB/S | Class of 2027 Graham can play in space or attack the line of scrimmage. His 87 tackles and 4.5 sacks made him one of Colquitt's most productive defenders, and he holds multiple Division I offers, including Mississippi State and Appalachian State.
Josh Alford | DB | Class of 2027 Alford finished his junior season with 81 tackles, seven tackles for loss and two interceptions. His current offer list includes Appalachian State, Arkansas State, East Carolina, Georgia Southern, Liberty, Old Dominion, Troy and Tulane.
Ty'Mhyr Moore | DL | Class of 2027 Moore produced 14 tackles for loss, three sacks and 14 quarterback hurries during the 2025 regular season. He has reported Division I offers and gives Colquitt a proven source of disruption on the defensive front.
Schedule Breakdown
There is no warmup. Colquitt opens at #2 Thomas County Central, the 2025 GHSA Class 5A champion, then hosts Monroe and Cook before the Sept. 11 trip to #60 Lee County. That fourth game puts Mitchell and Lawson on opposite sides after their transfers.
Lincoln and Rickards visit from Florida before Class 7A Region 1 play takes over the final month. Colquitt travels to Richmond Hill and Camden County and hosts #59 Valdosta and #74 Lowndes. The open date on Oct. 23 falls between Valdosta and the closing road trip to Camden.
The region contains only five teams, so every league game carries extra weight. Colquitt gets two of its biggest rivals at home, but it must finish the season at Camden County and against Lowndes after the open week.

Biggest Question
How quickly can Mitchell make the offense his?
Colquitt has a proven lead receiver, a new tight end, an experienced young running back and returning linemen. The pieces are better than a typical quarterback transition. They still have to fit together before the opener at Thomas County Central and the early trip to Lee County.

I have Colquitt County finishing 7-3 and advancing to the Class 7A quarterfinals.
I expect the Packers to be better late than early. Thomas County Central will test the new offense immediately, and the Lee County game carries obvious pressure. If Mitchell settles in around the returning skill talent and the defense becomes steadier, Colquitt has enough to challenge for the region and survive more than one playoff round.
Bottom Line
Colquitt has it's new quarterback. Lockett, Saporita and Stephenson give Mitchell three legitimate options, while Graham, Alford and Moore form a veteran defensive core.
The Packers will be judged by two things: how quickly the offense comes together and whether the defense cuts down the costly stretches that showed up in 2025. Get both answers, and No. 66 will look conservative by November.
