Somers reached the Section 1 Class A final last season, finishing 8-3 before Rye won the championship game 40-17. A large senior class graduated, so the 2026 Tuskers will ask a younger lineup to keep the program in the section-title race.
Quarterback is one of the positions Somers does not have to rebuild. Senior Tristan Iglesias returns after starting in 2025. Senior Cameron Violante is back at receiver and defensive back, while senior Hudson Ruby returns at center and defensive tackle.
Those three players give coach Anthony DeMatteo experienced leadership through the center of the offense and on both levels of the defense. The question is how much support emerges around them before Rye visits on Oct. 2.
Iglesias returns with a full season of experience running the offense. That continuity matters for a team introducing new starters at several other positions. Somers can begin preseason work with an established quarterback rather than divide its preparation between candidates.
Violante gives Iglesias an experienced target and remains important in the secondary. Ruby handles the exchange and line communication at center, then moves to defensive tackle. Together, the three seniors occupy roles that affect almost every snap.

Somers did not identify a long list of returning producers in its preseason questionnaire, and that is the honest shape of the roster. The Tuskers have a proven core and a large group that must establish itself in varsity games.

Schedule Breakdown
Somers opens with three consecutive road games at Mamaroneck, Brewster and Mahopac. That is a demanding start for a lineup introducing several new contributors, but the returning quarterback should help the Tuskers organize quickly.
Peekskill is the home opener on Sept. 25. Rye follows one week later in a rematch of the 2025 Section 1 final, making Oct. 2 the clearest measure of how much the rebuilt lineup has developed.
Lakeland and Yorktown complete the home schedule before the Oct. 23 finale at Carmel. Four of the eight regular-season games are on the road.

Biggest Question
How quickly can the new starters grow around Somers’ three senior leaders?
Iglesias, Violante and Ruby give the Tuskers important certainty, but they cannot fill every role left by the graduating class. Somers needs new runners, receivers, linemen and defenders to establish themselves during the first month.
The Sept. 25 home opener and Oct. 2 Rye rematch arrive after three road games. By then, DeMatteo should know whether the supporting cast is ready to keep Somers among the final teams in Section 1 Class A.
Bottom Line
Somers is younger than last year’s finalist, but it returns the right kind of experience for a transition. Iglesias is settled at quarterback, Violante provides a two-way perimeter leader and Ruby anchors the middle.
The ceiling will be determined by the players who emerge around them. If that group develops during the opening road stretch, the Tuskers can earn another chance at the Section 1 championship.

Projected Regular-Season Record: 6-2
Projected Postseason Finish: Section 1 Class A finalist
A 6-2 projection accounts for the graduation losses, four road games and the regular-season meeting with Rye. Iglesias’ return should give Somers more stability than most young teams have at the start of a season.
T25PS projects the Tuskers to improve through the schedule and return to the section final. Winning it will require the new lineup to close the gap Rye showed last November, but Somers has enough experience at quarterback and in the middle to earn another opportunity.
