East St. Louis Granted Move to Class 7A for 2026 Playoffs

The IHSA approved the Flyers’ request to compete in Class 7A instead of Class 6A, Mike Clark of the Chicago Sun-Times first reported. Andy Villamarzo of Rivals and On3 later reported the news Wednesday morning.
The 11-time state champions are coming off a 38-28 loss to Fenwick in last season’s Class 6A championship game. Now, one of the nation’s premier public-school programs will take on an even tougher postseason field while chasing state championship No. 12.
