Illinois Proposal Would Create Separate Football Championships for Boundary and Non-Boundary Schools

The West Suburban Conference’s Proposal 8 would divide football into six classes for boundary schools and two for non-boundary schools, according to Michael O’Brien’s Chicago Sun-Times report.
The distinction extends beyond public versus private. Non-boundary schools also include public magnet schools, making the specific classification rules important.
A second approach, Proposal 15, would preserve a shared championship while separating qualifying routes. Three semifinal places would go to boundary schools and one to a non-boundary school, according to Stateline Sports Network’s review.
For football programs, the central question is whether schools would pursue different state titles or compete through separate paths before meeting late in the postseason.
The proposals remain under consideration. Their release does not establish an adopted change to Illinois’ playoff structure.
Stateline reports that discussions this month will precede decisions on which proposals reach the membership ballot. Voting is scheduled for December 1–15, with results December 16.
