Class AA only has 16 teams, Class A has 24, while Class B has 36 — and Class C (8-man + 6-man) has nearly 100.That matters.Because now you’re balancing:Top-end competition (AA)Field size and depth (B, C8-man, C6-man)Sustained success vs peak performanceThat’s what makes Montana an interesting one to break down.With that being said, here are the Top 5 Public High School Football programs of the past 5 years in Montana:1️⃣ Helena Capital2x Class AA State Champions (2022, 2024)This is the clearest #1 on the board.Helena Capital didn’t just win — they won at the highest level, twice. In a state where Class AA carries the most weight by far, that matters more than anything else.Two AA titles in five years is the best résumé in Montana. Florence-Carlton completely owned Class B for multiple seasons.If this run happened in AA, they’d be #1 without hesitation.4️⃣ BozemanClass AA Champion (2023)Class AA Runner-up (2022)Bozeman’s résumé is built on high-end peak performance.They may not have the longevity of Glacier, but their peak puts them firmly inside the top 5.5️⃣ ManhattanClass B Champion (2025)Class B Runner-up (2023, 2024)This is where the list gets tight — and Manhattan separates because of sustained success.Three straight trips to the Class B state title game, finally breaking through with a championship in 2025.That consistency matters, and it gives them the edge over several strong one-year peak teams.🧠 Just Outside (and worth mentioning)Fairview – Back-to-back 8-player state champions (2023, 2024). If you prioritize championships over classification, they have a real argument for Top 5.Missoula Sentinel – Class AA Champion (2021). Strong peak, but lacks sustained success across the full five-year window.Hamilton – Class A Champion (2021). Similar story — good peak, not enough depth.Beaverhead County (Dillon) – Class A Champion (2023). Consistent program historically, just slightly outside this window’s top tier.Frenchtown – Class A Champion (2025).
