Nebraska’s Top 5 Public HS Football Programs (2021–2025)

Nebraska high school football, governed by the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA), offers one of the most balanced and system-driven landscapes in the country.
The state is divided into seven classifications:
Class A (largest)
Class B
Class C1 / C2 (mid-sized)
Class D1 / D2 (8-man)
Class D6 (6-man)
Unlike many other states in this series, there is very little influence from private schools in higher classifications. This differs from how we've looked at some of the more recent states in this series.
The big question when determining the rankings is:
How do you compare dominance in Class B or C1 vs winning at the top in Class A?
After a full audit of every state champion and runner-up from 2021–2025, here are the programs that rose above the rest.
🥇 1. Omaha Westside High School
Accomplishments (2021–2025)
Class A State Champion — 2022, 2023
Class A Runner-Up — 2021*, 2024
*2021 winner had title vacated; Westside was the runner-up in the official record
Why they’re #1
Westside owns the strongest résumé in Nebraska’s highest classification during this five-year window.
They:
Won back-to-back Class A titles
Reached four state finals
In a state where classification matters heavily, consistent dominance in Class A is the gold standard.
Verdict:
The most proven public program at the top level of Nebraska football.
🥈 2. Bennington High School
Accomplishments (2021–2025)
Class B State Champion — 2021, 2022, 2023
Class B Runner-Up — 2024
Why they’re here
Bennington was the most dominant program in Nebraska overall during this stretch.
Three straight state titles
Four straight title game appearances
Total control of Class B for multiple years
The only reason they’re not #1:
➡️ They competed one classification below Class A
Verdict:
The state’s most dominant dynasty — just slightly below Westside due to classification strength.

🥉 3. Millard South High School
Accomplishments (2021–2025)
Class A State Champion — 2024, 2025
Finished 14th in the #PublicSchoolsTop25
Why they’re here
Millard South surged late in the window and finished with:
Back-to-back Class A state titles
Wins over elite competition, including Westside
Even with fewer appearances than Westside, two straight titles at the highest level carries massive weight.
Verdict:
The team that closed the era as Nebraska’s top program.
4️⃣ Wahoo High School
Accomplishments (2021–2025)
Class C1 State Champion — 2024, 2025
Class C1 Runner-Up — 2023
Why they’re here
Wahoo became the defining program in Class C1 over the second half of the five-year window.
Back-to-back titles
Three straight championship game appearances
Clear separation from the rest of the classification
Verdict:
The most consistent and dominant C1 program in Nebraska during this stretch.
5️⃣ Pierce High School
Accomplishments (2021–2025)
Class C1 State Champion — 2022
Class C1 Runner-Up — 2021
Why they’re here
Pierce anchors the early part of the five-year window in C1.
Championship + runner-up
Consistent deep playoff presence
Stronger résumé than most lower-class dynasties when factoring 11-man competition
Verdict:
Edges out smaller-class programs due to strength of classification and consistency.
Just Outside the Top 5
Sandy Creek High School — Back-to-back D1 titles (2024, 2025)
Stanton High School — D1 Champion (2023), Runner-Up (2024)

Nebraska might be the purest form of public high school football in America.
No major private school interference

But unlike other states:
We saw how top heavy each classification was with the same teams returning multiple times to the title games.
That’s what makes Nebraska unique.
