The NMAA splits football across multiple classifications and formats: traditional 11-man from 6A down to 2A, along with 8-man and 6-man divisions. And unlike many states, smaller-school football makes up a significant portion of the landscape.
But here’s the key for this ranking:
👉 Not all titles carry the same weight
There is a clear separation between 6A/5A/4A and the smaller classifications in terms of depth, size, and overall program strength. When teams from lower classifications step up, the results tend to reflect that gap.
So while smaller-class dominance is respected, this ranking prioritizes:
