South Carolina Playoff Preview: Rock Hill Gets a Rematch, Crescent Comes Home Hot

Rock Hill has to keep Logan's running lanes covered without leaving room behind its secondary. A defense that leans too hard toward either threat can give the other one a chance to break the game open.

The Bulldogs have been uneven themselves, beating Spartanburg 49-28 before losing 44-10 to Fort Mill. Rock Hill needs to make them sustain drives rather than let a few explosive plays decide the rematch. The winner visits Northwestern on November 13.

Woodruff at Crescent

Crescent arrives 8-2 after sweeping its five region games. The No. 3 seed hosts No. 14 Woodruff on November 6 in Class 2A.

The Tigers can make a defense account for more than their running game. In the regular-season finale at Pendleton, Mason Evans completed 12 passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns. PJ Deveaux caught nine passes for 138 yards.

That connection gives Crescent an answer when defenders crowd the line. Woodruff cannot devote everyone to the backfield and leave Evans easy throws to his most productive target from last week.

Woodruff is 4-6 after four straight losses, but its passing game remains a threat. Connor Davis threw for 216 yards and three touchdowns in the 43-21 loss at Clinton. MiCah McClintock caught seven passes for 112 yards and a score.

Finishing possessions is the problem. The Woodruff Times reported that the Wolverines recovered two kickoff fumbles inside Clinton's 35-yard line and scored on neither opportunity. Against a Crescent team with several ways to move the ball, wasting those short fields makes the job harder.

For Crescent, keeping Davis and McClintock from turning this into a passing contest is one priority. For Woodruff, the challenge is turning productive stretches into points. The winner faces Chesnee or Pendleton on November 13.

The Ranked Teams' Paths

Northwestern, 9-1 and the Class 5A Upper State's No. 1 seed, awaits Rock Hill or Boiling Springs. The Trojans beat both during the regular season, including a 44-0 win over Rock Hill last week.

Dutch Fork, 9-0 and the Upper State's No. 2 seed, hosts the Lexington–Fort Mill winner on November 13. The Silver Foxes closed with a 49-7 win over White Knoll.
