No. 38 Central-Phenix City 2026 Football Preview

Team Snapshot **School:** Central-Phenix City (AL) **Head Coach:** Cody Flournoy **Classification:** AHSAA Class 6A, Region 2 **2025 Finish:** 11-2; AHSAA Class 7A semifinalist losing by one point to eventual champion Thompson. Only regular season loss was to IMG. 2026 Preview Flournoy takes over an offense that scored over 30 points in 12 out of 13 games last season, including 6 over 50. 2026 brings back some key pieces from that team starting with Jatori Williams, a 2027 Miami commitment, gives the Red Devils a centerpiece on the offensive line. Bobby Coleman is back for another year leading the offense at QB. He threw for over 3,000 yards and 33 TDs last year. That offense will need to be humming early on because they open the season vs the team that ended their season last year, #3 Thompson. If the offense is able to pick up where it left off last season that provides a chance to answer last November’s one-point loss on the field, then carry that edge into a Region 2 run that includes Opelika, Auburn, Dothan, Smiths Station, Carver, Enterprise before ending it with another national top 10 team with Clay-Chalkville. The key to this team will be the defense. If the defense can match what the offense should put up, they have a real shot at making another run at the state title. Opelika and Auburn arrive in consecutive weeks after the JAG game. That stretch should tell the story of Central’s September. I think they take care of business besides Thompson and Clay. Playoffs: Semifinals. I just don't see them getting past Thompson this year. Conclusion Central has what it takes on offense to make another run at the state title. They have a chance to get revenge from last year when they open the season up vs Thompson. We should know quickly if this team is near or above the same caliber as last years team.
