2026 Public Schools Top 100 Preview: No. 70 Hewitt-Trussville
Hewitt-Trussville looks to build on last years 8-3 record with a returning quarterback, a 30-player senior class but only seven returning starters for another difficult schedule.

Hewitt-Trussville won its first six games in 2025 and allowed only 154 points all season, but the finish exposed the work still ahead. The Huskies lost two of their final four regular-season games before Opelika ended their season 27-21 in the first round of the AHSAA Class 7A playoffs.
The 2026 team will be younger in several important places. Head coach Josh Floyd reported four returning offensive starters, three returning defensive starters and a 30-player senior class before the season.
Team Snapshot
2025 record: 8-3
2025 region record: 5-2
2025 finish: AHSAA Class 7A first round
2026 classification: AHSAA Class 6A, Region 3
Head coach: Josh Floyd
Returning starters reported by the program: Four on offense, three on defense
2025 scoring: 360 points scored, 154 allowed
2026 Outlook
Quarterback is the first question. Jack Floyd started four games as a sophomore before a hand injury ended his 2025 season. He returns as the program's leading option, but the job now includes taking command of the offense for a full schedule and building timing with a veteran group of targets.
Jackson Martin and DJ Hall give the passing game two established pieces. Martin is a Class of 2027 tight end with reported offers from Southern Miss and Georgia Southern. Hall is a Class of 2027 receiver whom the program reports has Division I opportunities. Their experience should help a quarterback who has not yet carried the position through an entire varsity season.

Harrison Malone gives the offense another answer. The program identified the Class of 2027 linebacker and running back as a three-year starter and its most under-the-radar player. Malone's ability to contribute on either side of the ball matters for a roster that needs younger players to take larger roles.
Micah Fantroy is the returning offensive lineman named by the program. The Huskies need him to anchor a group that will be tested immediately at Auburn and again by Hoover in Week 3. Daniel Williams is a sophomore running back the staff expects to contribute, while defensive backs Judah Webber and Parker Neigoot and linebackers Hunter Futrell and Joseph Deibert were among the newcomers Floyd highlighted.
The defense has the most heavily recruited player on the roster in D'ante Seals. The Class of 2027 edge defender has reported offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida State, Arkansas, Troy and UAB. For Trussville to reach where they want to go this year, it's safe to say they need to rely on Seals ability to wreak havoc on the QB throughout the year.
Floyd has high expectations for this group, and with the amount of returning seniors on the roster I'm sure it feels like a lot more of an experienced group than the 7 returning starters show on paper. The goal remains a state championship, and he believes the injuries that forced freshmen and sophomores onto the field in 2025 accelerated their development. The schedule will show quickly whether that experience has turned into dependable depth.
Players to Know
D'ante Seals | EDGE | Class of 2027 Seals is the defense's established pass-rush prospect and the most recruited player on the current roster. His burst off the edge can change a possession, but Hewitt-Trussville also needs him to set the standard for a unit with only three returning starters.
Harrison Malone | OLB/RB | Class of 2027 Malone is a three-year starter who can play linebacker or carry the ball. The coaching staff called him the team's most under-the-radar player, and his versatility gives the Huskies flexibility while younger players settle into new jobs.
Jackson Martin | TE | Class of 2027 Martin is a returning tight end with reported offers from Southern Miss and Georgia Southern. He gives the quarterback a bigger target in the middle of the field and can help stabilize the passing game.
DJ Hall | WR | Class of 2027 Hall returns on the perimeter, and the program reports that he holds Division I opportunities. His job is larger than replacing catches. Hewitt-Trussville needs a receiver who can create separation and give the offense a dependable answer on third down.
Jack Floyd | QB | Class of 2028 Floyd started four games before a hand injury ended his 2025 season. He has varsity experience, so a big piece of the puzzle for this squad is
Micah Fantroy | OL Fantroy is the returning offensive lineman identified by the program. His experience will be especially important while the Huskies establish protection and run-game continuity around a young quarterback.
Schedule Breakdown
The first three weeks offer no hiding place. Hewitt-Trussville opens at Auburn, hosts Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa and then gets Hoover at home. A trip to Tuscaloosa County and a home game against Prattville complete the first half before the Sept. 25 open date.
The closing stretch includes road games at Oak Mountain, Vestavia Hills and Pike Road, plus home dates with Thompson and Spain Park. The Thursday finale at Pike Road gives the Huskies one fewer preparation day at the end of the regular season.
Hewitt-Trussville's move from Class 7A to Class 6A changes its playoff path, but it does not make the regular season soft. Auburn, Hoover, Thompson and Vestavia Hills will force the new starters to mature in public.

Biggest Question
Can Jack Floyd turn four starts into a complete season at quarterback?
The Huskies have useful experience at receiver, tight end and running back, but the offense still has to protect its quarterback and replace production around him. The answer begins at Auburn and must be firm by the time Hoover arrives two weeks later.

I have Hewitt-Trussville finishing 8-2 and advancing to the Class 6A quarterfinals.
Seals gives the defense a proven pressure player, and the senior class gives the staff a leadership base. Reaching that ceiling depends on Floyd staying on the field and the new starters growing up before the schedule's final month.
Bottom Line
Hewitt-Trussville has real strengths: a 30-player senior class, an elite edge prospect and returning targets who can help a young quarterback. It also has only seven returning starters and a schedule built to find weak spots early.
No. 70 is reasonable if the Huskies solve quarterback continuity and line play. If those answers arrive slowly, the same schedule that can prepare Hewitt-Trussville for a playoff run can also cost it favorable seeding.
