2026 Teams to Know Season Preview: Norwin (PA)
Norwin returns a 1,500-yard runner, an experienced receiving target and a deep line group as the Knights try to build on a WPIAL Class 6A semifinal season.

Norwin won seven games and reached the WPIAL Class 6A semifinals in 2025, where North Allegheny ended the run with a 35-17 win. That was meaningful progress for Mike Brown's program, but it also showed the next gap the Knights have to close against the top of the classification.
The best place to begin is the backfield. Giovanni Rothrauff returns after rushing for 1,577 yards and nine touchdowns, and Potter Brozeski gives the passing game a 6-foot-4 target who caught 18 passes for 415 yards. Max Ritz takes over at quarterback with a veteran runner, a proven big-play receiver and an experienced line group around him.

Rothrauff Gives the New Quarterback Room to Grow
A 1,500-yard runner changes the pressure on a first-year starting quarterback. Rothrauff can keep Norwin on schedule, force safeties to respect the box and give Ritz simpler reads on early downs. The Knights do not need the new quarterback to create the entire offense. They need him to protect possessions and make the defense pay when it overcommits to the run.
Brozeski is the clearest outside answer. His 415 receiving yards came on only 18 catches, better than 23 yards per reception. The 6-foot-4 senior can win above smaller defensive backs and turn a clean play-action look into a large gain. Carson Miller and Xavier Holtzman give the offense and secondary additional senior options, which should keep the weekly plan from becoming too narrow.

Ritz's growth will decide how far the offense can expand. If he stays efficient on third down and in the red zone, Norwin can force opponents to defend the full width of the field. If the passing game becomes predictable, Class 6A defenses will load the box and make Rothrauff earn every yard through extra bodies.
Norwin Has Real Size Across the Front
Will Bossart is a 6-foot-5, 290-pound junior with Division I offers from Akron and Florida Atlantic. Sebastian Summerville gives the interior another 285-pound senior, while Max Fierle brings 6-foot-4 size and experience at defensive end and tackle. That is a strong frame for a team returning six starters on each side.
Jonah Fierle is a 6-foot-2, 290-pound sophomore who recorded 13 tackles in six games as a freshman and adds wrestling strength to the interior. Giovanni Algeri gives the edge another senior body at 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds. Norwin's front is not dependent on one player, and that depth should help Brown manage both sides of the ball through a demanding schedule.
Players to Know
Giovanni Rothrauff, RB/LB
Rothrauff is the returning engine after rushing for 1,577 yards and nine touchdowns in 2025. At 5-foot-9 and 205 pounds, he gives Norwin a compact, physical runner who can handle contact and keep the offense out of the long-yardage situations that put extra pressure on Ritz.
Potter Brozeski, WR/DB
Brozeski caught 18 passes for 415 yards last season, an average of more than 23 yards per catch. His 6-foot-4 frame gives the new quarterback a large target and gives Norwin a way to create explosives without asking the offense to string together 12 perfect plays.
Max Ritz, QB/WR
Ritz takes over the quarterback job as a junior. He has an experienced back beside him and a proven target outside, so the early standard is clear: make good decisions, keep the offense on schedule and let the game expand as his command grows.
Will Bossart, OL/DL
Bossart's offers from Akron and Florida Atlantic reflect the upside in his 6-foot-5, 290-pound frame. His immediate value is more practical. Norwin needs him to move people in the run game, protect a new quarterback and hold up against the biggest lines on the Class 6A schedule.
Max Fierle, DE/OT
Fierle gives Norwin another long senior lineman who can contribute on both sides. His experience helps organize a deep front and gives Brown flexibility when matchups or fatigue require the Knights to change the rotation.
Jonah Fierle, DL
Fierle is already 290 pounds as a sophomore and made 13 tackles in six varsity games as a freshman. That early experience gives him a chance to become more than future depth. He can be a meaningful interior piece now while still having several seasons to develop.
Giovanni Algeri and Sebastian Summerville, OL/DL
Algeri adds a senior edge presence, while Summerville supplies size in the middle. Together they give Norwin two more experienced bodies in a front that has to control the run, protect Ritz and stay fresh enough for the fourth quarter.
Carson Miller and Xavier Holtzman, WR/DB
Miller and Holtzman are senior two-way options who can deepen both the receiver rotation and the secondary. Their experience matters when opponents commit coverage to Brozeski or force Norwin to defend more space than its starting group can cover alone.

Biggest Question
Can Norwin give Ritz enough passing-game answers when the best Class 6A defenses take away the run?
Rothrauff and the line give the Knights a dependable first choice. The important growth comes after an opponent adds a defender to the box. Ritz has to find Brozeski, Miller or Holtzman without turning every third down into a high-risk play.
Norwin's semifinal experience should help the defense and the front understand the physical standard. The offense now has to become flexible enough to win when the preferred game script disappears.
Bottom Line
Norwin is not starting from hope. The Knights return a 1,577-yard rusher, a proven vertical target and enough size in the line to compete with the top of Class 6A. Twelve starters are back from a semifinal team.
I expect Norwin to be in the postseason conversation again. Going farther will depend on how quickly Ritz turns a strong supporting cast into a complete offense.
