Tennessee 6A Playoff Preview: Riverdale and Oakland

Riverdale hasn't lost since opening night. Its reward for last week's 36-34 win over [Oakland](https://t25ps.com/teams/tn/oakland) and the Region 3 championship is a home playoff opener against a fourth seed playing its best football of the season. Cookeville was 2-5 three weeks ago. Three wins later, it arrives with a defense that allowed just 24 points across that stretch. Oakland, meanwhile, takes an 8-2 record on the road. Two losses by a combined three points left the Patriots third in the region and headed to Lebanon. Both Class 6A games kick off Friday, November 6, at 7 p.m. Central. #66 Riverdale (TN) and #75 Oakland (TN) are ranked in the [November 2 T25PS national public-school Top 100](https://t25ps.com/rankings/2026/2026-week-11-top-100). Cookeville at Riverdale Riverdale has scored at least 30 points in each of its nine straight wins. Quarterback Gavin Hampton completed 12 of 14 passes for 268 yards and five touchdowns in one half against Rockvale on October 23, according to 615 Preps. A week later, receiver Brylan Oduor scored twice in the first quarter against Oakland, once on a deep pass and once on a screen. The Cavaliers, 5-5, beat Farragut 34-0, Mt. Juliet 34-17 and Lebanon 17-7 to finish 3-2 in Region 4. Their offense has options, too. Against Mt. Juliet, quarterback Easton Davidson threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Hunt Reese gained 98 rushing yards and scored both rushing and receiving, the Upper Cumberland Reporter reported. Riverdale is 9-1 and won all seven region games. Nobody scored more than 21 against the Warriors through nine games. Oakland's 34 was a reminder that the defense still has work to do. **What to watch:** Cookeville needs to tackle Oduor's short catches without giving Hampton the deep ball. Its own early-down gains matter, too: keeping Davidson and Reese involved gives the Cavaliers more choices than repeatedly asking their quarterback to rescue third-and-long. Oakland at Lebanon Oakland running back Jacob Vaughn made an impact in two different ways against Riverdale. He carried 15 times for 115 yards and a touchdown, then added three catches for 85 yards and another score, according to the Daily News Journal. Lebanon has to account for those receiving opportunities as well as the handoffs. The Patriots' two narrow defeats surround six straight wins, including back-to-back 42-0 finishes against La Vergne and Stewarts Creek. The Blue Devils are 7-3 and Region 4's second seed, but went 1-2 over their final three games. Running back Gyan Ezeta gained 137 yards against Gallatin, then 31 on 13 carries at Cookeville. Lebanon also threw an interception on fourth-and-goal from the 2 in that finale; Cookeville followed with an 80-yard touchdown drive. **What to watch:** Lebanon needs to find Vaughn after the snap, whether he's carrying or catching. Getting Ezeta going would help the Blue Devils sustain drives. Finishing those possessions matters after the missed goal-line chance at Cookeville.
