Thursday Night Recap: Buford shuts down Miami Central, West Boca Rolls

Week 4 got started Thursday night with several results that will have an impact on the next Public Schools Top 100.

The biggest came in Georgia, where #10 Buford beat #9 Miami Central 18-7 in our T25PS Game of the Week.

The game was tied 7-7 at halftime before Buford took control in the second half and shut Miami Central out over the final two quarters. After an uneven first couple of weeks, this was the type of performance I wanted to see from Buford against one of the most talented teams in the country.

In Florida, #8 West Boca Raton beat Cardinal Newman 24-7 in a matchup of defending state champions that West Boca absolutely dominated from start to finish. The final score does not give the performance due justice, but that was far from the only notable result in the state.

Venice absolutely rolled Lehigh 69-0, while three Florida teams in our Top 100 went down Thursday night: #10 Miami Central lost to Buford, #39 Miami Northwestern fell 16-12 to Hawthorne, and #70 Edgewater was beaten 24-3 by Lake Nona.

In Texas, #23 Waxahachie beat Guyer 44-30 in a wild back-and-forth game that had one of the best finishes of the night. Guyer was threatening near the goal line late before Waxahachie's defense came up with the stop it needed, forced a turnover and took it back 93 yards for a touchdown to put the game away.

Waxahachie is now 3-0 with wins over Ennis, Coppell and Guyer and continues to look like one of the teams to watch in Texas.
