2026 Preseason Top 100 Season Preview: No. 100 Atascocita (TX)
A new head coach and a veteran Division I core give Atascocita a chance to turn last year's 6-5 finish into a quick rebound.

Atascocita went 6-5 last season, its lowest win total in more than a decade, and then handed the program to Kyle Coats. That sounds like a reset until you look at who is still in the building.
The Eagles return a receiver who topped 1,000 yards, several committed Division I defenders and enough experience to make improvement an expectation rather than a hope. When I look at Atascocita, I see a team whose record can change quickly if the quarterback play catches up to the rest of the roster.
Team Snapshot
Team: Atascocita Eagles
Location: Humble, Texas
Head Coach: Kyle Coats
2025 Record: 6-5
2025 Finish: UIL Class 6A Division I bi-district round
Returning Starters: 13 total starters
T25PS Ranking: No. 100
A Faster Rebound Is There
Coats arrives after taking College Park to a 12-1 season and the first regional semifinal in that program's history. He inherits 13 returning starters, so his first job is not to invent an identity. It is to sharpen one. The Eagles were close enough to beat quality teams last year, but a 51-47 playoff loss to Dickinson also showed how little room their defense had for an off night.
Brian Manuel Jr. gives the offense a true featured receiver after producing 1,059 yards and 16 touchdowns. The defensive side is even more established: Jason Johnson, Tavon Bolden, Trenton Blaylock, Joshua Banks and Isaiah Rasheed are all committed to Division I programs. That kind of experience should let Atascocita play faster while the offense settles its most important position.
The schedule will not offer much patience. Katy, Cibolo Steele, Dickinson, North Shore and Summer Creek can all punish indecision. I still like the Eagles' chance to rebound because the roster has answers at receiver and across the defense. The question is whether the offense can stay efficient enough to let those strengths decide games.
Players to Know
Brian Manuel Jr., WR
Manuel produced 1,059 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns in 2025 and is committed to Texas State. He is the clearest proven centerpiece of the offense.
Jason Johnson, DL
Johnson is committed to Texas. His ability to change a snap before it develops gives the defensive front its most valuable pressure point.
Tavon Bolden, DB
Bolden is committed to Houston and gives Atascocita an experienced coverage defender in a district filled with explosive passing games.
Trenton Blaylock, DB
Blaylock is committed to Oklahoma. He gives the Eagles another trusted defensive back who can handle high-leverage matchups.
Joshua Banks, CB
Banks is committed to Texas Tech. His experience at corner helps Atascocita play more aggressively across the secondary.
Isaiah “Rocket” Rasheed
Rasheed is committed to North Texas and adds another current Division I pledge to an unusually deep defensive group.

Biggest Question
Can Atascocita settle the quarterback position quickly enough to let its defense control the season?
That is the hinge for me. Manuel gives the new quarterback a proven target, and the committed defenders should keep plenty of games within reach. Atascocita does not need reckless production from the position. It needs good decisions, manageable downs and fewer empty possessions against the best teams on the schedule.
Bottom Line
I see a much better team than last year's 6-5 record suggests. The recruiting talent is real, the defense is experienced and Coats has already shown he can accelerate a program. If the quarterback play becomes dependable, Atascocita can move from a first-round exit back into the regional conversation.

T25PS Prediction
I have Atascocita finishing the regular season 7-3. The defense and offensive line are experienced enough to produce a clear improvement, but road games at Katy, Dickinson and North Shore plus home dates with Cibolo Steele and Summer Creek leave little room for an extended adjustment period.
