John Meredith III remains ineligible for the 2026 varsity football season at North Crowley after his appeal went before the UIL State Executive Committee.
Meredith, a five-star cornerback and Texas commit, transferred from Euless Trinity to North Crowley before previously being ruled ineligible by the District 11-6A executive committee. The district committee voted 5-2 that the move was for athletic reasons, according to prior reporting from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
The ruling does not make Meredith ineligible everywhere. He is still eligible to play at Euless Trinity, but as of now, he is not eligible to compete for North Crowley.
The decision is one of the biggest eligibility rulings of the offseason in Texas high school football. Meredith is ranked as one of the top overall players in the 2027 class and is viewed as one of the premier defensive backs in the country.
For North Crowley, it is a major development entering the season. The Panthers are No. 18 in the T25PS Public Schools Preseason Top 100 and remain one of the top public-school programs in Texas, but for now they will have to prepare without one of the nation’s most talented defensive backs available for varsity competition.
