UIL Denies Elijah Smith’s Appeal, Rules Allen Transfer Ineligible
According to a report by Greg Riddle of The Dallas Morning News, the UIL State Executive Committee unanimously denied Allen defensive back Elijah Smith’s appeal for varsity eligibility on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.
The committee upheld a local district decision that Smith transferred to Allen for athletic purposes. Under UIL rules, a student found to have changed schools for athletic purposes is ineligible for varsity competition at the new school for at least one calendar year.
Smith is a junior cornerback who moved to Allen from Hamilton High School in Arizona. His family told the UIL hearing that they moved to Texas to be closer to relatives in Waco. The committee nevertheless upheld the ineligibility ruling.
Smith holds reported college offers from Baylor, Kansas State, Louisville, Oklahoma State, Colorado State and UNLV. Allen entered Friday’s scheduled game against Princeton at 4-0, according to the report.
